New Books for the YA

We had recently recieved a grant from the Mexia Rotary Club, a sum of $2000. The grant was used for the addition of Young Adults books. The Young Adult section was in need of new books for our young people. Previously the section had only 14 shelves of books, with the addition of about 200 books, additonal shelf space was needed. The Rotary Club members volunteered their help to move the two exsisting units over and put together a new shelving unit. Shelia, Lynn, and Linda lent their helping hands in removing books and putting the new unit together. We now have 25 shelves of YA books with space to grow. Come check it out!

Summer Reading Program

Gibbs Memorial Library Summer Reading Program had a great summer during the month of July. We had 269 children sign up. Our weekly programs were two storytime days and one craft day. Nan Brown, pictured left, read the story of "Cinderfella."Roxianne Schuster and Melody Schulte, Sara Sims, above, also read to us and told us stories. Glenda Nelson told us stories of her childhood and brought us homemade ice cream which we enjoyed so much that we forgot to take pictures. We had books, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, as give aways after storytime. At our end party we had Puppet Wise production put on a puppet play and then we handed out certificates for participation and for the ones who met their reading goals certificates and cowboy hats with bandanas. The Friends of the Library hosted with punch and cookies.
