Summer Reading Program 2009

This year's Summer Reading Program for Gibbs Memorial Library was "Libraries...Deep in the Heart of Texas" with a total of 269 children registered. For those who were registered and turned in a reading log, they received a certificate and for those who reached their reading goal, they received a certificate and a book bag. We also had a bookmark contest with 30 winners. A copy of their bookmarks are available at the library for a limited time. The library also gave out certificates for the Most Books Read and Most Time Read. First place awards went to Rachelle Curry for 525 books read and Carson Cotton for 31 reading hours. Reading goals for ages 3-7 were 100 books and 8-up were 12 hours by the end of the reading program.
We had storytime on Tuesdays and Thursdays with crafts on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Our storytellers were Nan Brown, Glenda Nelson, Officer Jameson, Jan Miller, Orma from LARA's House and Michelle from the Girl Scout Council.
Friends of the Library provided the books that were given away at storytime and bookbags as well as refreshments and Puppet Show at the End Party.
We had a lot of fun with... stories, knowing how to take care of our pets, and finding out what a Police officer does. We made fun crafts...paperbag puppets, rainbow windsocks, waterbottle piggybanks, sea shore sticker pages, and Texas bugs.
